the insiders.
These are the Insiders who will be available 24/7 and know everything there is to know about the neighbourhood. All our insiders are actually from the neighbourhood. So whether you’re looking for the most romantic restaurant on the block or the best place to buy gifts for the home front, all you have to do is ask.
Mario
Mario loves Amsterdam and its history. Before becoming a YAYS Insider, he was a boy scout, a tour guide and a candy maker. His favourite place in Amsterdam is the kinderboerderij of Westerpark, a little city farm unknown to many locals. Even on a day off, he loves to hang out in the neighbourhood with his daughter or his friends, discovering hidden gardens. Mario speaks Mexican Spanish and Texan English, knows a lot of Polish words and is working on his Dutch.
Da
Da was born and raised in Bangkok, Thailand. She loves to cook and share her love for food with others, but be aware: if you can’t handle the spice, that’s on you. The same goes for chit chatting. If the conversation is flavourless, she’ll keep quiet. On the other hand, if you ask her for new music to discover, she will talk your ear off. She’s a reader by night, and you can occasionally even catch her drawing. She loves coffee, bubble tea and all kinds of sweets, so sure ask her for recommendations in Dutch, English or Thai.
Dascha
Dascha speaks Dutch, English, Russian and Ukrainian and the spontaneous woman that she is, you’ll have poured out your heart to her without even noticing it. She’s lived everywhere, from Ukraine to London and Antwerp, scouring the continent for beautiful vintage goods. With a long history in fashion, she now runs her own business selling only the most qualitative and aesthetically pleasing vintage clothing, accessories and furniture. When she’s not at the hotel, she’s either photographing her found treasures or her cute dog Jaap, the funniest little teckel that loves himself a good carrot.
Thomas
When he is not managing his YAYS aparthotel in Amsterdam East, Thomas can be found flying model aircraft, watching one of his cats take a shower (don’t ask us, ask him) or enjoying the vibe at NDSM, his favourite spot in Amsterdam and one of the hippest cultural hubs in the city. Ask him anything about the neighbourhood in English, French, Dutch, or Brabants. You could try in Spanish, Russian and German, too.
