Let me tell you about Antwerp! This city is an absolute gem, filled with so much personality and charm. From the moment you set foot on its streets, you’re bound to fall in love with its unique sights and delightful atmosphere.

Now, let’s talk about those narrow cobblestone streets for a second. They may not be the most practical for high heels, but trust me when I say they add so much character to the city. You’ll feel like you’re walking through a fairy tale, taking in all the sights and sounds. 

One of my favourite things about Antwerp is how easy it is to stumble upon something new and exciting. You take a turn around the corner and you find a charming little café that serves the best waffles you’ve ever tasted. Or maybe you’ll come across a quirky boutique filled with vintage treasures. The possibilities are endless! 

So, if you’re looking for a city that’s bursting with personality and things to do, Antwerp is definitely worth visiting. Get ready to be enchanted by its beauty and charmed by its people. Trust me, you won’t be disappointed! 

YAYS in the heart of Antwerp 

If you’re looking for a place to stay there, let me introduce you to YAYS Antwerp Opera. Not only it is super central (perfect for people like me who love to explore on foot), but it’s also located in the middle of all the historic action.

Grote Markt Antwerpen 

When visiting the city, don’t forget to check out the “Grote Markt”. This place is a must-see location! The vibrant square is home to a variety of locally owned cafes and restaurants, making it the ideal place to unwind and take in Antwerp’s ambiance.  

I don’t know about you, but one of my favourite things to do while traveling is to find the best local eats. And let me tell you, “Grote Markt” does not disappoint. From cozy cafes to upscale restaurants, there’s something for everyone. And the atmosphere? Don’t even get me started. 

However, that’s not all. The “Brabo” monument in the center of the square is a sight to behold. Legend has it that a giant named Antigoon demanded a toll from ships sailing down the “River Scheldt”. If ships refused to pay, he would cut off the hand of one of the sailors and throw it into the river. The hero Silvius Brabo defeated the giant by cutting off his hand and throwing it into the river. The “Brabo” monument depicts this legend, with “Brabo” holding the hand of the giant triumphantly above his head. 

The Antwerp Story 

While you are in the area, make sure to visit “The Antwerp Story” at Het Steen to learn more about the fascinating history of Antwerp. This historic fortress, situated on the right bank of the “Scheldt River”, is the oldest building in Antwerp and has served many functions throughout its lifetime.  

Nowadays, it takes the form of a multimedia exhibit that takes visitors on a journey through the city’s history. It’s like stepping back in time and experiencing everything first-hand. The exhibition features interactive displays, video installations, and other multimedia elements that bring Antwerp’s past to life. 

‘t Zuid 

Oh, art lovers, do I have a treat for you! If you’re looking for beautiful masterpieces, Antwerp is the place to be. Go visit the “Museum of Fine Arts” and prepare to be blown away by their collection of Flemish art. From 14th-century classics to modern-day wonders, this museum has it all. 

And if contemporary art is more your thing, don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. The “M HKA”, or “Museum of Contemporary Art”, is the perfect spot for you. Featuring works by the most cutting-edge artists, this museum is guaranteed to inspire you. 

Now, let’s talk architecture. ‘t Zuid is a neighbourhood that is a true work of art itself. Every corner greets you with stunning Art Nouveau and Art Deco buildings. It’s like walking through a museum, but it’s free and you get some exercise while doing it! 

However, all that exploring can be tiring, so make sure to stop by “Café Hopper” for a little treat. This cozy spot is the perfect place to relax and recharge. Grab a cup of coffee or a beer and take a break from sightseeing at this hidden gem in the heart of Antwerp. Trust me, you’ll feel right at home here.
